Important People

Benito Mussolini founded the Fascist Party in 1919. In October 1922, Mussolini led a march to Rome and demanded King Victor Emmanuel III to give over power of the government. Mussolini became Prime Minister, he abolished democracy and banned political parties.




In 1920 Adolf Hitler joined a right-wing political party which came to be known as the Nazi party. In 1923, Hitler tried to seize power and was arrested and tried for treason. He became popular again in 1929 when the Great Depression hit in Germany. By 1932, the Nazi Party was the largest political party in Germany and in 1933 he was made Chancellor of Germany by President Paul von Hindenburg.








Albert Einstein developed the Theory of Relativity which described the relationships between time and space and between energy and matter. Einstein won the Nobel Prize in 1921. On August 2, 1939 he wrote a letter to president Roosevelt urging him to create an atomic weapons research program.
